Plant Hire – your questions answered

Plant Hire - your questions answered

If hiring plant equipment is on your agenda, whatever the size of project you’re involved in, from small domestic building projects to large commercial construction sites, it’s vital to ask the right questions in order to ensure you get the correct item of machinery for your needs.

In this blog we explore what you need to know about plant hire before you decide to hire any plant or construction equipment.

The practicalities of hiring plant and construction equipment

Your location is the key consideration when it comes to choosing a plant hire company. Using a local plant hire company means you’ll pay less for delivery and there’s greater chance of getting your plant equipment to site within 24 hours (subject to credit checks and availability).

Rabbit and Dowling Plant Hire covers most of the areas of West Sussex, East Sussex, Brighton and Hove and Surrey, as well as parts of Hampshire and Kent. Delivery fees vary depending on the location and plant required.

Further practicalities to consider are whether the delivery lorry can safely deliver the equipment to the kerbside. Make sure you’re ready to receive your plant hire equipment as delivery of the machinery can be in as soon as 24 hours time, subject to credit checks.

We offer a minimum plant hire period of 24 hours for all of our equipment and you will be asked to make a member of our team aware of how long you are planning to need the plant equipment for.

The type of plant and equipment you need

Rabbit and Dowling Plant Hire has approximately 300 pieces of plant machinery available for hire from a range of the most popular plant hire manufacturers. Our plant hire equipment includes excavators, dumpers, rollers and telescopic handlers in many sizes and with a wide range of capacities and capabilities.

They will ensure you have the right type of plant, of the right size, capacity and capabilities to meet your needs and your budget.

It’s always important to ensure that the cost of your plant hire fits within your budget. Our prices are dependent on specific requirements and the length of the hire period. However, because we carry out free site visits, we’re pleased to say that we’re trusted by our customers to supply the right plant hire machinery for the job at the right price.

Your obligations as a plant hire customer

Rabbit and Dowling Plant Hire invests heavily in its fleet of plant hire and construction equipment, ensuring that we are able to offer a wide range of models, sizes and capacities, as well as some of the latest plant on the market. We also have a rigorous maintenance programme to ensure that our customers are not held up or let down by plant that doesn’t operate as it should. This is all part of our commitment to our customers.

As a plant hire customer you need to take all reasonable measures to protect the plant you have hired. This includes ensuring it is operated by someone who is fully trained to do so and who operates the plant within its capabilities and capacity. Our team can offer basic handover guidance on request, when the machinery is delivered.

The plant needs to be kept safe and secure while not in use and overnight. You also need to have the correct insurance. Any theft must be reported to the police immediately and the crime reference number recorded. Plant loss or damage must also be reported to us straightaway. Find out more in our Loss or Damage waiver agreement.
